Dedication by the Dozen:

Team Schwiekert

Kevin Schweikert wears multiple different hats as a father of 12, a coach, and a worship leader at his family’s church. He hopes his “love for life, God, and sports” will leave an impact on those in his life and teach his children to pursue these passions as well.

The Schweikert family is large, but their ties are strong. Rebecca and Kevin’s 12 children range in age from 11 to 37. Three boys are 18 and under and still live at home, but the rest of the group isn’t far away. They all still live in the Columbia area and are starting families of their own.

Kevin and Rebecca work hard to blend family life with a mix of activities where they can teach lessons of hard work and dedication. The family is involved heavily in a local track club, bible-quizzing teams, and two different churches that they attend each Sunday, along with many other activities.

The Schweikerts joined a new club, called Blue Thunder Track Club around 2005. The track club was “something the whole family could be a part of, where practices weren’t separated by age,” Kevin said.

The Schweikert kids are homeschooled by Rebecca and Kevin, so getting them involved in this athletic group was a good way to motivate everyone to leave the house, stick to a schedule, and stay in shape. Kevin helps coach the teams, and the kids participate during both the cross-country and track seasons.

The family attends Forum Church on Sundays in Columbia at 8:30 am, a big church with a big service, and then hop in the car and drive across town to a church named New Providence Baptist Church, with a much smaller congregation where they are all involved in the service.

Kevin and Rebecca do their own worship in the mornings and hope this is something their kids see and work on in their own lives. Kevin is hoping to instill an understanding of discipline in his children, and how to implement it in daily life, through both religion and sports.
